Paper 1 is an External assessment and is marked by the IB. The teacher is not involved in the marking of external assessments.
Paper 1 is different for Standard Level and Higher Level students.
Paper 1 SL details:
- 1hr 15 min.
- 35% weighting
- Paper 1 has two non-literary passages (these could be whole short texts or extracts from longer texts). Students will not know what the texts are beforehand.
- The two passages will not be the same text type.
- Each passage will have a guiding question although students are not required to answer it.
- Students must choose ONE passage to analyze.
Paper 1 HL details:
- 2 hrs 15 min
- 35% weighting
- Paper 1 has two non-literary passages (these could be whole short texts or extracts from longer texts). Students will not know what the texts are beforehand.
- The two passages will not be the same text type.
- Each passage will have a guiding question although students are not required to answer it.
- Students must write an analysis for both passages. The analysis for each passage is done separately.
