Before you read the “spoiler” bullet points below take a careful look at the text. Imagine it is a text you are using for your DP Language A Language and Literature assessments: the individual oral, the HL essay, or Paper 1 and analyze it accordingly. (This text would not be appropriate for Paper 2).
Some elements of the text to consider:
- The text type – it has elements of a news story and blog
- The accompanying photo which shows Shinji Kagawa with a slightly less than pleased expression
- Paragraph length
- The amount of background detail / information given about Japanese language and culture
- References to football / soccer and what these references tell you about the typical reader (e.g it is assumed that the reader knows what “Old Trafford” is)
